Florida’s ad war

According to CNN.com, Florida has been more of a focal point for ads in any swing state. Both President Barack Obama and former Massachusetts Gov. Romney have spent more money here than any other state, with the next closest being Ohio. The ads have been consistent in targeting seniors with medicare and the middle class. Obama has spent more money on ads, but his party has held less events there.

Obama down, but not out in Florida

The Florida polls, according to www.realclearpolitics.com, have former Massachusetts Gov. Romney with a slight lead. Many state officials, such as Anitere Flores, a state Senator, have acknowledged this, but don’t feel Romney has Florida just yet.

Republicans are outnumbered by Democrats close to 500,000. Also during President Barack Obama’s four years as president, the minority numbers have increased in Florida. Both of these figures favor Obama. Although, Romney does seems to have a solid amount of popularity among people from all of the yard signs all over Florida in his support. Florida with its 29 electoral votes is definitely a prize both candidates will be fighting for.

Florida Snapshot

With electoral votes, Florida is a key swing state for presidential candidates.

Florida has been pretty even in recent elections; neither the Republican nor Democratic Party has had an edge. Republicans have won the plurality of the popular vote one of the last four elections, 2004. Democrats have won two of the last four plurality of the popular vote two of the last four, 1996 and 2008. In 2000, the race was so close it prompted the historic Bush-Gore recount.

The majority of polls in Florida are showing Obama winning over Romney. Obama went to Florida on a two day trip through the state Sept. 8 and 9. Romney had made news for one of his trips to Florida in May with his now viral “47 percent” video — a video of one of the candidate’s closed-door fundraisers. In the video, he begs for the support of the upper class people in the room. He was recorded saying that 47 percent of the people around the country will not pay taxes and he doesn’t expect them to vote for him.  Since the video was released, the polls in Florida are not favoring him.
