New Hampshire Changes Gears

In the latest presidential poll in New Hampshire, Mitt Romney has taken the lead with 49 percent, edging President Obama’s 48 percent.

The poll was conducted on Oct. 19, just a day after Obama visited New Hampshire. A member of Obama’s campaign just announced that Obama will make another visit to New Hampshire on Oct. 27, his fifth of the campaign. The past has proven that New Hampshire voters tend to go against government intrusion in their lives, a possible reason for Romney’s sudden lead.

On Oct. 18, Obama still held a 0.8 percent lead over Romney. The highest lead Obama held this month was 6 percent, a lead he held from Oct. 1 through Oct. 9.

New Hampshire Snapshot

Out of the swing states for the 2012 presidential election, New Hampshire is the smallest with only four electoral votes.

Although President Obama had a consistent lead throughout most polls this year, New Hampshire recently took a strong right turn. Obama also has to worry about New Hampshire voters sticking with Mitt Romney because the Republican Party candidate owns a home in New Hampshire. In addition, Romney was previously the governor of Massachusetts, the neighbor state of New Hampshire.

However, Obama does have an advantage when it comes to female voters. The GOP has always had a disadvantage when it comes to female voters, something that Romney has to look out for in New Hampshire.

Vice President Joe Biden has been sent to New Hampshire often recently to speak against Romney to the state’s voters. Although the Democratic Party is trying to use this as an advantage, the past has shown that New Hampshire voters typically go against government intrusion.

After voting for George W. Bush in the 2000 presidential election, New Hampshire has favored the Democratic candidate for the past two elections. According to the Huffington Post, as of Sept. 29, Obama is leading the polls in New Hampshire with 49.2 percent with Romney trailing behind at 44.5 percent.
